Happy Christmas to all my patients in Woking! We’ve had a great year at Mark Walles Chiropractic and have learnt a lot about health, life and the human body from you all. Thank you very much.
To keep healthy during the festive period here are my top three tips:
1. Walk. Most of us are taking some time off work this week and it’s a great opportunity to provide our spines with a little light relief from the relentless compression of the daily grind. A brisk 30-45min walk is one of the best things you can do each day to keep your spine healthy, your mind clear and your bowel movements regular. A great habit to get into after a heavy meal too.
2. Keep hydrated. With all this heavy food, alcohol and fun and games it’s important to remember the basics. If we place demands such as these on our digestion and our physical body we require plenty of fluids. Fluids are required to keep muscles supple, our brain alert, our bowels moving and for our body to synthesise and and process foods and toxins in the liver. Aim for 6 to 8 glasses of non alcoholic, non caffeinatead fluid a day, and remember to drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you consume.
3. Don’t forget your core muscles! How well A chiropractic adjustment is “held” by a person depends on their posture, stress levels and the strength of the muscles around the spine. The majority of us have core muscles which are soft and weak. Switch them on this Christmas with exercises such as oblique crunches, planks and the bridge. But don’t do this with a belly full of turkey and mince pies! Best done on an empty stomach!
